Blancpain (Blancpain) earlier this year released the eye-catching and very unique Mokarran limited edition, expanding its fifty ift series Bathyscaphe series (inspired by fifty Fat series luxury diver watches), with a retro theme . Green on the dial and bezel.
This fall, the manufacturer continued to add colorful options to the series with two new models. One brought those unique green dial and bezel colors into the Bathyscaphe Flyback chronograph; the other introduced a sand-colored dial to Bathyscaphe Day-Date.
The Bathyscaphe chronograph flyback chronograph has a new green dial and bezel.
The new Fifty Fat (Fathty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Flyback Chronographe) has a diameter of 43.6 mm and is made of satin-brushed black ceramic. Its unidirectional rotating diving scale bezel has a green ceramic insert, and its shadow echoes the shadow of the dial. The radiant sunburst effect of the dial is obtained through a series of steps starting from a two-step polishing process, the first step is to remove scratches, and the second step is to smooth and soften the surface. Then the chronographs at 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock and 9 o’clock are hollowed out and nailed to give the dial a greater sense of depth. Finally, a few nanometers of material are coated on the dial, which gives it an unparalleled green under certain lighting conditions and a subtle metallic hue.
Blancpain’s in-house self-winding movement F385 runs at a frequency of 36,000-vph (5-Hz) under the shock of the sapphire caseback. The chronograph mechanism driven by the column wheel can record the time to 1/ 10 seconds. The variable inertia balance with gold screws ensures higher durability and more precise adjustment compared with traditional indexing devices.
The vertical clutch helps to improve the accuracy of the chronograph, eliminates accidental shaking of the counter hand when the chronograph is engaged, and allows the stopwatch mechanism to run freely without affecting the speed accuracy of the watch. The case equipped with this high-end clock mechanism can be waterproof to 300 meters and can be mounted on NATO or sail canvas belts.
The Blancpain F385 movement can be seen through the bottom cover.
Another new model, Bathyscaphe Day-Date Desert Edition, is limited to 500 pieces. The sandy beige dial is inspired by the desert of California’s Death Valley, where the pioneer of underwater photography Ernest H. Brooks II famously dived into the underwater canyon called Devil’s Hole in 1962.
Its 43 mm case is made of satin-brushed steel, and the diving scale insert on the unidirectional bezel is made of brown ceramic. The sand-colored sunburst dial is a new product in the series. Its eye-catching rectangular hour markers echo the Arabic numerals, which are circled every 5 minutes. It draws design inspiration from the 1970s model-until the block syringe needle and the day date Displayed in two windows at 3 o’clock.
The 300-meter waterproof case of this watch is equipped with another Blancpain movement, the self-winding movement 1315DD. Its distinguishing features include: a power reserve of five days (120 hours) when fully wound. The silicon balance spring that can resist the magnetic field, and the gold rotor treated with NAC. This watch is equipped with a sailing canvas strap, which complements the warm sandy color of the dial, highlighting the desert style.
The brand-new sand-colored dial has a historic dive in one of the hottest places in the world as a commemoration.
It reminds you of the 1970s and our most relevant design elements of that period. Of course it is a cushion cover. Smoked dial, yes. Large square markers were also used at the time, and these elements can vividly evoke this period.
About two years ago, I covered the cool new version of Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe with a unique retro 70-year representative disc. Certain elements of the design are reminiscent of an early version of Bathyscaphe in the 1970s.
However, although the Bathyscaphe in the 70s had a cushioned case and an inner bezel, the watch two years ago used a more traditional round Bathyscaphe design, and the dial was inspired by the Bathyscaphe in the 70s.
Today, we will launch a watch that can be said to be a follow-up to the Bathyscaphe Day Date in the 70s two years ago. Limited to 500 pieces, with a beige sand dial and matching sail canvas strap. Although there is no doubt that this is a keen diver, there is more than that.
The 50th Anniversary Edition of Bathyscaphe Day Date Desert was created by underwater photographer Ernest H. Brooks II diving in the Devil’s Cave in Death Valley in 1962. While diving into remote geothermal, water-filled caves that stretched to a depth of more than 120 meters, Brooks photographed the endangered Devil’s cave fish. Brooks, a pioneer of underwater photography, is also a contributor to the “Fifty Fat” version of the project.
In 1956, when Jean-Jacques Fiechter, then CEO of Blancpain, realized the need for a smaller and more wear-resistant diving watch, the original Bathyscaphe followed the original Fifty F. After all, the original Fifty Fat fighter was developed with the assistance of elite combat divers.
When you look at the reduced size and design of Bathyscaphe, it is easier to imagine the one worn by enthusiasts and recreational divers. Bathyscaphe also proved that it is particularly suitable for integrating dials and bezels of different colors.
This is every serious diving watch, but I feel that there are more opportunities to try the tropical style of Batiscarp than the fifty fat. This is not to say that Fifty Fat has no border impulse. For example, I think of X hom, but Bathyscaphe seems to be a more natural testing ground for style experiments.
The sandy beige daylight frosted dial seems to have a smoky feel, making the surrounding look darker. It is a good example of a retro vintage dial with a sandy beige strap and brown ceramic bezel. It is different from Bathyscaphe Day Date’s 70s in that, from the dial to the bezel and even the strap, its surroundings are very light. Both hands have the same square shape, syringe style, and the same luminous marks applied. One might wonder why the minutes on the bezel are repeated on the outside of the dial. This is the result of the internal bezel construction in the 1970s that inspired this watch. Essentially, the five-minute mark around the dial of this version will become part of the rotating inner ring in the old version.
I like the original version of this Online cheap watch very much, and I think this desert-themed novice can be said to be more attractive. The only real little problem here is size. Faced with the choice between Blancpain’s 38mm Bathyscaphes and 43mm options, I feel the former’s strong appeal.
